humpty dumpty sat on the wall
humpty dumpty had a great fall
all the king's horses and all the king's men
couldn't put humpty together again
i've always found this rhyme amusing. did you ever notice that it never said that humpty was an egg? hahaha. everyone just seems to assume he is. probably because of all those drawings that always accompany the riddle.
you know, it wouldn't be so tragic if someone (other than mr. eggy here) fell off a wall. i mean.. you fall off a wall.. you don't usually *die* from it, right?! not unless the wall is several storeys high, hahaha. but humpty dumpty the egg fell. and so he's a goner.
anyway, this rhyme makes me think about some things:
first of all, what reason did humpty dumpty have for sitting on the damned wall? he's an EGG, for crying out loud!! didn't his mother ever tell him that it's dangerous for eggs to be sitting precariously atop a high wall? hmm. perhaps humpty was a suicidal egg..
and secondly, how did humpty dumpty fall off ? was he a depressed, suicidal egg who thought he had nothing else to live for? was his head a little.. erm.. cracked?! (sorry.. bad pun) or did someone force him to sit upon that wall so he could push humpty and make it look like an accident? if that were the case, who would do that, and why?
maybe the king and his horsemen had something to do with humpty's death. perhaps humpty knew a royal secret. maybe he found out the king was sleeping with the queen's sister's lady-in-waiting or something. or perhaps he heard about the king's plan to murder his wife so that he could find a new queen. and poor humpty became a threat to the peace of the kingdom (or rather, the peace of mind of the king) so his royal highness had his horsemen push humpty off that wall. that's why they could not put him back together again. because they were ordered NOT to even try..
oh well. so much for children's rhymes. who knew these could be so.. uhmm.. gruesome?!?
i think i've been watching too many murder mysteries on dvd of late.. hahahaha
